1. Keep the car std but just remap for more oomph and better fuel economy.
A full custom remap will bring boost in much earlier and hold higher boost levels for longer but the map will be geared to running much more efficiently ( which is also more economically) as it wont be possible to push too much boost with both cats in place. Typically a Green/K&N/Cosworth air filter and a backbox are fitted at this stage.

With a simple remap on the standard car typically this would get the car to about 290bhp (blob eyes may make slightly more)

2. Sports cat in downpipe - remove centre cat
A full custom remap will bring boost in much earlier due to the lower back pressure and hold much higher boost levels. The remap will also aim to get it running much more efficiently ( which is also more economically).
Typically a Green/K&N/Cosworth air filter is fitted at this stage (on top of the sports cat downpipe and exhaust system). A walbro 255 fuel pump is essential.

It is also advisable to change to NGK PFR7B spark plugs.

This would get the car to about 320-340bhp but a huge boost in torque figures in the mid range.

3. Fully Decat Exhaust
The low back pressure from removing all the cats reveals the true characteristics of the boxer engine. A remap is needed to bring it under control and stop overboosting. The remap will bring boost in as smooth as possible and most likely get full (and higher ) boost at around 3300 rpm (depending on turbo surge point) and hold higher boost right through the rev range. The remap will also aim to get it running much more efficiently ( which is also more economically).
Typically a Green/K&N/Cosworth air filter and possibly a 3 port solenoid are fitted at this stage (on top of the decat downpipe and exhaust system).

This would get the car to about 330-350bhp but I have seen them up to 365bhp on the std turbo but a huge boost in torque figures in the mid range and transform the way the car drives on the road.

A walbro 255 fuel pump is essential.
It is also advisable to change to NGK PFR7B spark plugs.

2.0 WRX 01-05
In std form they are 220bhp give or take and have boost at about 0.9 bar. The boost profile in the std map is pretty tame and doesnt come in til 3500rpm assuming the car is std.

so... choices

Ca sa fiu mai clar nu am nimic cu nimeni doar cand te apuci si pui linkuri pe aici si ce parere au uni si alti - treaba e fff clara cand NU ARE CUM SA SCOATA UN STI 350 BHP DOAR CU O ALTA PLACA IN ECU LA ASTA MA REFER .... mai sus este explicat destul de clar ... da stiu si eu un impreza in grecia 900cp facut de extreme tuning.gr dar nu a mers prea mult cu el -FIABILITATE...

Ma asteptam la o activitate mai dezvoltata cand e vorba de discutii de chiptuning.
Nu vreti sa-i ajutati cu informatii si pe cei mai noi in analele Subaru.
Daca intri pe un forum de afara la un astfel de subiect toata lumea fierbe spune ce si cum... nu cred ca sunt doar 2-3 care si-au resotatat Subaru in club.

Poate ca s mai multi...dar frecventa cu care crapa motoare e probabil la fel de mare.Parerea mea e ca mai binele e dusmanul binelui.Si daca nu esti pregatit sa bagi bani grei in masina ca sa ai un rezultat bun...doar un soft nu rezolva ceva.Hai sa rationam....de ce nu le ar face din fabrica mai sprintene...mai economice si/sau mai rezistente.....?

aici nu sunt de acord cu voi .... problema este la noi in tara nu la subaru in general ! nu sunt bine ingrijite motoarele si softuri ''smekere'' = boom sau dupa caz poc,poc,poc  ;D!

Salut, 

Sunt in plin process de engine rebuild ( WRX EJ255). Intrebarea mea este: Merita s-o resoftez?  Scopul este ca masina sa devina mai reliable printr-un management mai eficient.   In motor voi bune doar piese OEM, practic ramane stock. Nu m-as supara sa am cativa caluti in plus, dar nu asta e obiectivul.

Eu iti recomand calduros sa NU pui doar piese OEM, minim prezoane de chiuloasa ARP - nu pune prostiile alea de bolturi OEM ca mai devreme sau mai tarziu vei avea probleme cu garniturile din nou (se subintelege ca in cel mai rau caz pui bolturi OEM noi - nu refolosi cele vechi - desi in reprez. vor vrea sa le puna pe alea vechi ... ) si as visa eu si pistoane ...
Faci rebuild pentru ca ? Stiu ca nu e la subiectul intrebarii dar sunt curios ce a patit motorul inainte ... garnituri de chiuloasa sau pistoane imprastiate sau cuzineti ?

garniturile de chiuloasa sunt duse si pistonul 4 spart. (cilindrii sunt perfecti, din fericire)  Si daca tot umblu pe acolo, pe langa pistoane mai schimb si cuzinetii si pompa de ulei.
